With yet more revelations about how the rich avoid paying tax I have written to the Times suggesting a simple way of making sure you avoid this new breed of tax “advisor”.

As a chartered accountant, who qualified in the mid 1970s, may I suggest a way of making sure you don’t choose one of the new breed of “aggressive” tax advisors? Ask them “Under what circumstances will you reveal that I’m one of your clients?”.

If the answer isn’t “Never” choose another advisor.
